Web based learning or distance education as it is usually called has a number of great uses. In hearing this presentation I think I well be able to use much of the information presented as a part of my classroom. Not only are web based courses great for students who have scheduling problems, travel issues or have trouble working in a traditional classroom but the material included in these course can be used as a resource for teachers who are instructing a course outside their comfort zone. The prepared material can be used as a resource package and could aid in the development of lessons for teachers who are short on time (this well be all of us next year!).
I am sure I will be teaching at least one course I am not familiar with and these resource are something I will be sure to lean on in times of need.

Hey Chad,
ReplyDeleteI also found it interesting that the online courses can be used by teachers as a resource. I think this is something that we all can take advantage of next year, as you mentioned. I took one Distance Education course during my first degree and it worked out quite well. I think that the most important aspect of an online course is that it needs to be very organized. At a glance, Manitoba's online courses look pretty good!

Great point about using these courses as a resource Chad. I was able to make use of the blackboard resource during my last student teaching placement. If nothing else, it's a great way to just get some ideas for your lessons. Kudos to Howard, Donald, and the rest of the group for having the foresight to make these resources available for our use.
ReplyDeleteWeb based learning is excellent for travel and scheduling concerns. I also argee that it can be helpful to team teach over the net for the benifit of both the students and the less educated teacher. Excellent post Chad.
